American Red Cross
Did you know that it takes 56 days for your body to
create and replace one standard unit of blood.
This is why you can only donate
once every 56 days.
When you give blood, do you know how much of your
blood is taken ? The answer is one pint, which is the
standard unit they take when
you donate blood.
Question: Do you know how much blood a person
needs who is receiving a heart transplant ? Answer -The average person receiving a heart
transplant needs on average a massive 50 pints or units of blood to complete the operation ! This means that if 50 people like you
and I gave blood, it could all be used to save
just one persons life !
Did you know that if a person needs and has to be
adminstered Chemotherapy, they often need blood transfusions to bring
up both their red and white blood cell counts. The red blood cells carry oxygen to the body, and the white blood cells
fight off infection in the body. The same therapy that fights off the cancer, will
take a large toll on the body. That means
all people
who are patients battling cancer need constant access
to a steady supply of blood for transfusions regulary.
The American Red Cross here in the Commonwealth
of Massachusetts is operating on just one days supply !
Thats right, just one days supply.
The majority of blood
donors give over and over again. However, they are the
minority verses the rest of the population. Most people
say
that they have never been asked to donate blood.
"WELL, YOU HAVE JUST BEEN ASKED."
There are many ways of being a hero. Giving to charity
is one, and working to raise money for it is another. But
to give blood is to
give the gift of life. Only you can step
up to the plate and hit a home run by donating blood. So
many good people need your help. Please
consider it.
Be a hero and give the gift of life. You have been asked.
Just think, you could give to charity, and it wouldn't even
cost
you anything but a little bit of your time. It doesn't
get any easier than that to know you helped save a life !
